History
On March 9, 1967 six female students at George Mason College decided to create a sisterhood for the college community. Lynne Jagdmann, Nancy Kelly, Maile Miller, Mary Ann Nulty, Penny Rood, and Antoinette Scala, along with the guidance and support from Delta Tau Sigma Fraternity, now Kappa Sigma Fraternity of George Mason, founded Lamda Tau Omega. From these early days a brother-sister relationship was established between Kappa Sigma and Lamda Tau Omega. The sorority's first pledge class was selected in February 1968 and initiated as members the following May.
On March 8, 1970, the sisterhood of Lamda Tau Omega was pledged a colony of the Chi Omega Fraternity by Mrs. Bowie of the Chi Omega Washington Alumnae. On September 26, 1970, with the help of the Northern Virginia Alumnae of Chi Omega, and specifically Mrs. Judy Arendsee, twenty-three members were installed as the Chi Kappa Chapter of Chi Omega Fraternity. The installation ceremony was conducted by Mrs. Winnie Bowker, the National President of Chi Omega at that time. Thus, Chi Kappa became the 158th chapter of the Chi Omega Fraternity.
