In 1950, Mr. Henry G. Manne graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University and with a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Chicago.  In 1971, as Kenan Professor of Law and Political Science at the University of Rochester, Manne founded the summer Economics Institute for Law Professors.  In 1974, Manne moved to the University of Miami and then to Emory University in 1980.

In 1986, Manne moved his Law and Economics Center to George Mason University when he became the Dean of George Mason University School of Law.  As Dean, Manne established an academic specialization in economics.  One reason for establishing this specialization was that "economics has proved to be the most powerful and applicable cross-disciplinary tool to use in collaboration with law. There simply are more fields of law that can use economics profitably than is true of any other discipline."

The George Mason University Moot Court Board and the Law and Economics Center proudly dedicate this competition to Dean Manne in honor of his contributions both to law & economics and George Mason University.
