SEXtravaganza 2007 Sextravaganza 2007 was
a student-run event led by the Pro-Choice Patriots and co-sponsored by the
Office of Alcohol, Drug, and Health Education, Mason’s Women’s
Coalition, and Pride Alliance. In 2005, this same event brought about plenty
of media attention and turned out to be an absolute success. It was the hope
of the Pro-Choice Patriots to make this years just as successful, and even
more educational and entertaining. Both key goals were achieved with the help
of the Mason communities participation in this carnival of sexual safety and
education. Sextravaganza 2007 was packed with educational information
concerning women’s health, HIV/AIDS prevention, human rights issues,
and human sexuality. Sextravaganza 2007
proved to be even more exciting and eventful than it’s predecessor
SEXtravaganza 2005. Full of both informative and fun information the Mason
community received enough information to last them a lifetime (of safe sex). One of our two key
speakers included Maria Falzone who performed her highly educational, yet
comedic, presentation of “Sex Rules!” which has been done on
college campuses nationwide for over 10 years. Maria grabbed the attention of
students who were waiting for condoms and cake – or just trying to make
it through the large crowds for their next class. Her down to earth and
Boston-attitude kept their attention and kept them laughing. Her humorous
spins on the ups and downs of sex made safe sex exciting. In light of Earth
Week we invited the environmentally friendly Sierra Club who presented a very
interesting workshop on ”Sex and the Environment.” This two-day
extravaganza guaranteed to not only be beneficial to the student body, but
also for all student and national organizations who were invited to
participate. Free food, t-shirts, giveaways and, of course, fun was also
included in this campus-wide event. The Pro-Choice Patriots look forward to
Mason’s participation in this carnival of sexual safety and education
for years to come. v
