Membership in Trial Advocacy Association

Any law student in good academic standing with the George Mason University School of Law is eligible for membership to the Trial Advocacy Association.

Candidate Member


Any law student who participates in one or more of the below listed Participation Opportunities during their first year of law school will be considered a Candidate Member. As a Candidate Member, you are eligible to become a Board Member and will receive preferential consideration for Board Membership.


Board Member


A Board Member is an upcoming 2L, 3L or 4L student who is selected for membership by the Executive Board during the end of the Spring Semester or following the Intramural Competition in the Fall Semester. A Board Member must compete in at least one Intramural competition and must commit to participate on at least one committee per year. Participation in the committees is to be determined by the Executive Board. All Board Members are expected to assist in the preparation for and attend both the Intramural and Costello Competitions.


Participation Opportunities:

  • Compete in the Intramural Trial Advocacy Competition
  • Serve as a Committee Chair, Bailiff, Witness, and/or Law Clerk of a Trial Advocacy Association sponsored competition
  • Moot teams scheduled to compete in a Trial Advocacy Association sponsored extramural competition (to be eligible to moot a team, the member must have already competed in the Intramural Competition)
  • Compete in an extramural competition (to be eligible to compete in an extramural competition, the member must have already competed in the Intramural Competition)
