United College Ministries

In Northern Virginia

The journey from being young Christians to becoming devoted friends and servants of Christ is filled with many challenges and spiritual rewards. UCMNV is with our students as they step into the Christian community and discover their gifts of the Holy Spirit.

As young Christians step into the world, it is imperative that they be able to communicate with other Christians and other God-oriented people around the world. This global connection helps us understand God’s plans and how God is celebrated in Asia, in Africa, in Antarctica, in Europe, in Latin America, in South America, in Australia and other parts of North America. See how universal God's love and presence are! How wonderful will it be to hear Christian Praise and Alleluia in many tongues and, because of the great strides that technology has made, you can really talk with other Christians instantly in other parts of the world about your common interests. You can even send each other pictures of current campus ministry events and do joint or inter-connective ministry projects together by e-mail and Internet.

UCMNV Volunteers:

We really need your help with the Listening Post, office operations, and events preparation. Two annual events that require coordinators are the Hunger Concert at GMU Fairfax and the Social Justice Awards Dinner. We are also looking for candidates to become peer ministers. Being a peer minister is a great step in pursuing a life of service to our Lord. Click here for volunteer application.

Campus Involvement:

UCMNV will help you organize campus-wide events on topics such as: hunger, prayer, spiritually, international dialogues, race relations, faith and the intellectual life, non-violent conflict resolution, marriage preparation, the art of listening.

Connections with Northern Virginia Churches:

Northern Virginia is rich in a diversity of Christian cultures and worship. We will help you explore regional churches to find the right community for the needs of your spirit.

Christian Advocacy:

To advocate means to" PLEAD FOR". Nowadays, many people are unable to articulate their need to be treated with dignity as Children Of God, as Human Beings or as Persons.

When one does advocacy work in Human Rights, Ecological Issues, Civil Rights, Religious Rights and when one becomes an advocate of the poor and the disenfranchised by one's Actions, Prayers and Public Statements, one makes possible for others to see a Redeeming God, A Compassionate God, A Just God.  The rights of people, which reflect our understanding of the will of God for us to love one another, cherish this world as custodians, have a freedom of will, are often written in international or national codes, but very often violated in personal lives or the collective experience.

Internships:

Almost every Christian denomination has internship opportunities and some are ecumenical in nature. Each internship is geared towards those with specific Christian experience and gifts. We will help you decide on which internship is right for you. Internships are a great way to embrace Christian service and the experience can help you decide your course in a life dedicated to Christ through serving the needs of others.

Here's what students are saying about Table talk:

"For me, Mason is a big and sometimes overwhelming place.  I think Table Talk offers a way to actually meet a few people you pass by everyday.  I like that it's an organized group that has values in common, but there's no agenda other than to simply get together and socialize."--Kate Myers

"Table Talk is an opportunity to meet & chat with new friends in Christ in a relaxed environment. It's a fun place to simply relax after our daily responsibility. The dinner is free & always good."--Barry Soesanto

Our new worship service at GMU (that starts at the end of Aug.) has its own site.
