2003-04 to capture the annual Virginia Sports Information Directors
Association College Division All-Sports Survey.
This marks the first year that the Marlins have won the award
for the highest overall winning percentage among Virginia’s Division
II and III schools.

Liberty junior Katie Feenstra has been selected as
the 2003-04 VaSID Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the
Year, voted by the sports information directors from around the
state. Bonnie
Hendrickson, head coach of Virginia Tech, was selected as
the Coach of the Year.

Capel garnered his second straight Coach of the Year award

Men’s Basketball Team, as voted by the Virginia Sports

Swanson Receive Top VaSID University Division Women's Soccer Awards
Virginia sophomore Kelly Hammond and
coach Steve Swanson Monday (April 26) received the top
awards for the 2003 Virginia Sports Information Directors
Association University Division All-State Women’s Soccer Team.
Hammond, a midfielder, was named the state player of the
year and Swanson the state coach of the year.

VCU senior forward Matthew
Delicate was named Virginia University Division Men's Soccer
Player of the Year, while Virginia Tech second-year head coach Oliver
Weiss was named Coach of the Year, as voted on by Virginia
Sports Information Directors.

University Athletics Featured on Pepsi Cans
Longwood University's upcoming move to NCAA Division I
status in athletics is currently featured on a Pepsi can. The new limited
Lancer/Pepsi can was scheduled to be available in most major grocery outlets
from Roanoke eastward to Amelia, including Farmville, after January 15.

Ricca, Bridgewater's Clark Named College Division Football Player and
Coach of the Year
Hampden-Sydney
sophomore quarterback JD Ricca was
named the 2003 Virginia College Division Football Player of the Year,
while Bridgewater Head Coach Mike Clark was named the 2003 Coach of the Year in voting conducted
by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association.
- Jones,
Groh Receive Top VaSID University Division Football Honors
Virginia Tech junior Kevin Jones and the
University of Virginia’s Al Groh Wednesday (Dec. 17) received
the top awards for the 2003 Virginia Sports Information Directors
Association Division I All-State Football Team.
Jones, a junior running back, was named the state player of the
year and Groh the state coach of the year.

Names Naff Director of Athletics; Holden Promoted to Assistant AD
Head
Baseball Coach Abe Naff has been named Director of Athletics at
Ferrum College, President Jennifer L. Braaten announced January 12.
The College also announced the promotion of Gary Holden to
Assistant Athletic Director. Holden
will continue to serve as Sports Information Director and Men’s
Tennis Coach.

were named the 2003 VaSID University Division Player and Coach
of the Year, respectively, highlighting this year’s team which
was announced today.

Hockey Team
Old Dominion senior midfielder Angie Loy was
selected as the 2003 Virginia Field Hockey Player of the Year in
voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association,
while Richmond head coach Ange Bradley was named the
State’s Coach of the Year.

Soccer Team
Eastern Mennonite
University forward Ellie Lind and Virginia Wesleyan
College defender Julie Green were named the 2003 College
Division Women’s Soccer Co-Players of the Year, as voted upon
by the Virginia Sports Information Directors. Virginia Wesleyan
Head Coach Jeff Bowers was honored as Coach of the Year.

Murray, Travis Sweep VaSID All-State College Soccer Honors
Virginia
Wesleyan College sophomore forward Kelvin Murray was
named Virginia College Division Men’s Soccer Player of the
Year, while Marlin head coach Sonny Travis was named
Coach of the Year, as voted by the Virginia Sports Information
Directors.

Mennonite's Kristin Moyer Repeats as VaSID College Division Field
Hockey Player of the Year
Eastern Mennonite University senior attack Kristin
Moyer was named Player of the Year for the second-straight
season as the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID)
College Division Field Hockey Team was released Tuesday.
Virginia Wesleyan College’s Kim-Michael Mertes earned Coach of
the Year honors.
