Color/Honor
Guard
The
George Mason University Police Department's Honor/Color Guard
provides its services for special events, i.e, sporting events,
dinners, funerals. This unit is available
for special
events by contacting Lt. Willie R. Morton at 703-993-2872.
Van
Driver Familiarization Class
Van
Driver Familiarization Classes will be held on the dates and
times listed below. Class size is limited to ten. You must
submit the Application
Questionnaire 48 hours prior to class. Please
fax the completed and signed questionnaire to Captain Joan
McCall at 993-2801. Please indicate on the
form the date and time you wish to attend this class. If you
have any questions please contact Captain McCall at 993-2824.

Note:
Although the class size is
limited to 10, We need at least 5 people per class to conduct
the class. All classes are held
at the Police Department located
in parking lot C. Each class is four hours in length (8 am
- 12 noon). Van driver classes for Spring 08 will
be held on:

Identity Theft:
The
George Mason University Police wants to remind Faculty, Staff,
students and visitors to protect their identity. Identity theft
is a growing problem in America. University Police officers are
trained to handle incidents of identity theft. Contact University

Cadet
Program
The
George Mason University Police Cadet Program was established
in July
2003 to support the George Mason University
Police Department. The program which is managed by members of
the George Mason University Police Department is comprised primarily
of student wage employees who are non-sworn personnel without
powers of arrest. Members of the program are committed to providing
the highest level of safety, security, and service
to all members of the George Mason University community, their
visitors and guests.
Committed
to the prevention and control of crime, protection of life
and the safeguarding of property
through vigilant patrol; Police Cadets promote the advancement
of cooperative relationships within the university environment.
Police
Cadets’ are required to complete an in-house training
program designed by experienced members of the law enforcement
community. The Director of the Police
Cadet
Program, along with the Police Department Training Division
provide additional training throughout the year to
ensure the highest level of professionalism.
Candidates
for employment with the George Mason University Police Cadet
Program must pass a background investigation.
The
George Mason University Police Cadet Program offers a wide
range
of services designed to meet the needs of the university
while providing
students with an opportunity to gain valuable insight

Crime
Prevention Services
A full-time University
Police officer serves as a crime prevention officer, and conducts
orientation sessions for new students, new employees, housing
coordinators, and resident assistants on safety procedures
and
alcohol and drug awareness. Throughout the year, this officer
and other police representatives are available to speak to
interested
groups of students, faculty, and staff on topics including sexual
assault, dating safety, theft prevention, personal security,
victim
services, and alcohol and drug awareness. Call 993-2815.

Crime
Solvers

of the City/University Crime Solvers Program. Information reported
to the police that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a reward
of up to $1,000.

Fingerprinting
University Police
provides fingerprinting services for George Mason University students,
faculty, and staff, and their families. Persons requesting the
service should provide the fingerprint cards and a photo ID. Please
call 993-2810 to make an appointment.

Key
Control
Under
the auspices of the University Police Department, the Key
Control Services
Office has the responsibility of issuing keys to University offices.
Those individuals who have been authorized to have keys to
specific
offices can report to the Key Control Services office with their
GMU ID to obtain keys.
A properly signed
and authorized key request should be sent-in beforehand from your
department. Exterior keys for access to buildings on campus will
only be issued upon recommendation of the respective Dean of Vice
President and approval of the Chief of Police.

Operation:
Identification
University
Police will assist by engraving an identifier on personal items
kept on and off campus. Items such as bikes, computers, radios,
and stereo systems would qualify for this service. Call 993-9764

Aggression Defense (RAD)
Rape
Aggression Defense (RAD) – A 12 hour Women's Self Defense
Course,
offered FREE to University-Affiliated Women Only. University-Affiliates includes
students, faculty, vendors, alumni, contractors, staff, and their family members.
This
two day, 12 hour class will be offered on March 29 and 30
from 11:30am - 6:00pm.

Victim/Witness
Assistance Program
University Police's
Victim/Witness Assistance Program is designed to help students,
faculty, staff, and visitors to the campus who become victims
of crime. This help includes assisting victims and witnesses
who need to report crimes, preparing them to testify against
accused persons, escorting them to any and all court appearances,
preparing status reports on cases, regaining property used
as evidence during a trial, getting compensation for losses,
and
assisting with academic intervention as necessary. The department
has personnel trained in counseling victims of crime. Also
available
are references for on and off campus legal, financial, medical,
and psychological assistance. Call 993-2815.
