OCTOBER 18, 1999 … George Mason got two goals from senior Jaime Ricker (left)and another from sophomore Katy Robertson as they snap a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Pennsylvania today at the George Mason Stadium.

The four straight losses tied a school-record for most consecutive losses in a season. Since the inception of the program in 1982, the Patriots have never lost more than four games in a row.

The Patriots built up a 2-0 lead thanks to Ricker's second score of the day. Sophomore Megan Hawkins (Burke, VA / Robinson) served a long ball down the left sidelines and then Robertson crossed it to Ricker who lofted it over Katherine Hunt in the goal. This was Ricker's first multi-goal game of her career and she now has five goals this season.

Pennsylvania cut the margin to one in the 76th minute. Junior Kellianne Toland found herself open from 15 yards out when a ball rebounded out to her and she fired it into the top right corner of the net. Toland leads the Quakers with 17 points (five goals, seven assists).

This time freshman Angela Lombardi crossed it to Robertson who tapped it in for her 16th goal of the year. Robertson has a CAA and team-high 43 points (16 goals, 11 assists). The Patriots are now 6-6 overall and will be hosting James Madison on Wednesday at 4:30. On Saturday they travel to Rutgers for a 7:00 pm game.

Below are game stories from both contests.

#10 VIRGINIA TOPS GEORGE MASON 3-2

OCTOBER 10, 1999 … Tenth-ranked Virginia scored three unanswered goals including the game winner in the 83rd minute to pull off the 3-2 win over George Mason today before 1,365 fans at the George Mason Stadium.

Junior Tracey Lache scored her first goal of the year and it was the game winner for the Cavaliers who improve to 9-4 on the season after a 2-1 overtime win over No. 2 Florida Friday night. The Patriots have lost two straight and fall to 6-6 on the season.

George Mason got on the board first with a goal just 10:40 into the first half. Junior Stephanie Hancock, who returned to the lineup after missing the last three games with an injury, passed the ball to sophomore Katy Robertson (left) who snuck around UVA goalkeeper Julie Harris for the 10 yard strike.

Robertson notched her second score of the day in the 18th minute. Robertson fed freshman Angela Lombardi who was then taken down in box. Robertson stepped up to take the penalty kick putting the Patriots up 2-0.

This was Robertson's fourth goal of the season off a penalty kick. She leads the CAA and is ranked third in the NCAA with 14 goals (seven assists for 35 points).

Virginia would answer in the 20th minute. Freshman Jess Delucchi was called for a foul in the box and Cavalier senior All-American Angela Hucles took the penalty kick. Freshman Naomi Hines came up with a big save on the kick, but Hucles was there off the rebound and knocked it in for her eighth goal of the year.

George Mason went up 3-1 in the 25th minute off a goal by freshman Caroline Kent (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge HS), but it was negated after she was called offsides. Kent scored after a Megan Hawkins shot was saved and deflected out by Harris.

Virginia tied the game up 2-2 in the 55th minute. Freshman Meredith Rhodes (Falls Church, VA/Falls Church HS) took a corner kick from the left side. Senior Jill Maxwell was there to head the ball in off the corner kick for her sixth score of the season.

The Cavaliers took their first lead of the game in the 83rd minute. Hucles touched the ball back to junior Tracey Lache and her 12 yard shot made it into the bottom left of the goal.

"It was a great effort from our team today," said head coach Jac Cicala. "I thought that everyone played well for us. The one thing I'm dissapointed in, is the fact that the referee's had a big impact on the game. I felt like there were a lot of poor calls made on both teams. It was just unfortunate that they took the game away from the players."

The Patriots host James Madison on Wednesday at 4:30 pm at the George Mason Stadium.

George Mason falls to 6-5 while Maryland improves its record to 4-7-1. The Patriots host #10 Virginia on Sunday at 4:00 pm.

George Mason was called for a foul just outside the penalty box which set up the game winning score. Senior Lindsay Basalyga took the penalty kick and found Mynarski on the left side of the goal. She headed the ball in from about three yards out.

"We had our chances and didn't finish," said head coach Jac Cicala. "I really compliment our defense today, because for 89 of the 90 minutes they were working really well."

Mason sophomore Katy Robertson had two fast break shots go just wide of the goal. She had five shots on the day. Robertson had a string of five consecutive games with a goal before today's contest. The 5-8 forward from Atlanta, GA, was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week and was also the CAA Player of the Week after scoring five goals and adding two assists.
