The George Mason Review is one of the few student funded, student produced journals to be used as a textbook in the United States.

The GMU Review was originally founded:

  1. To create a new publishing forum for beginning GMU writers and to demonstrate a commitment to recognizing and validating student work.

  2. To provide 101 composition students with more accessible models for writing. The GMU Review is often used as a text book in 100 level English courses.

  3. To enhance George Mason University's ever-developing sense of community. Personal essays and opinion papers reflect the diversity of university in a serious and thought provoking manner. In-coming students and instructors gain a sense of GMU student interests and concerns.

  4. Recent issues expanded to include creative writing ventures by GMU students in order to provide a forum in which to publish their work.
