The purpose of the Quality of Work Life Task Force is to make recommendations regarding the quality of work life for all George Mason University employees. This year a group of sixteen faculty and staff members, including faculty specializing in organizational psychology are meeting regularly to prepare a new survey for 2009.
This year's task force will review the university's current policies and develop a 2009 survey, while analyzing past surveys that have been distributed to university employees.
In March the 2009 survey will be sent to employees across all job categories (adjunct, administrative/professional faculty, instructional/research faculty, and tenure-line faculty; classified staff, and non-student wage employees). The survey will also solicit general input through two open-ended questions. University employees are encouraged to take the 2009 survey that will be available online.
This web site will be updated throughout the year to include a report on the research findings for 2009, a schedule for interactive feedback chat sessions, a summary of feedback from the sessions, as well as staff comments submitted through the QWL Comment Form below.
While the information elicited from the surveys is important, it is not as important as the community-wide discussion that the task force hopes the research will generate. All university employees are invited to Townhall to participate in one of three interactive feedback chat sessions, in order to discuss the survey findings. Dr. Merten and members of the Quality of Work Life Task Force will participate in the discussion. RSVP via e-mail for a chat session that will appear on an upcoming web site schedule. A QWL Comment Form is also available to email comments related to the survey report or the interactive feedback sessions.
The task force considers the feedback from the discussions to be a critical element contributing to recommendations that will be made public and also forwarded to Dr. Merten and the Executive Council in January 2009. Please feel free to pass along your comments and ideas to any member of the committee.
