Barry W. Stevens - Director, Research Policy Development

Barry Stevens serves part-time as the Director of Research Policy Development and Research Professor. He is a lawyer by training. From March 2004 through April 2007 he held two part-time positions, directing the policy development function at George Mason and serving as Vice President and Counsel for Regulation and Legislation for a nonprofit student loan trade association.

Prior to the spring of 2004, Mr. Stevens served as a senior attorney in the Office of the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Education. His career in public service began as a Peace Corps Volunteer and later included legal positions in a variety of subject matter areas (higher education, regulation and legislation, business and administrative law, Inspector General functions, and civil rights), as well as a year as the chief legal officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service. His interest and expertise in consensus-based policy development led him to his current position at George Mason University.

Mr. Stevens is a graduate of Duke University and the Georgetown University Law Center. He may be reached at bstevens@gmu.edu.
