Message from the Vice President
Matthew J. Kluger, PhD, MBA
One of my first tasks upon becoming George Mason's first Vice President for Research on
July 1, 2005 was to create a Research Council to support the strategic and operational needs of the research mission of George Mason University. We post the summaries of the Council meetings on the web within two or three days of each of the meetings.
Much of the most exciting research occurs at the boundaries of disciplines, and one of my goals is to break down silos, which naturally occur as a result of having distinct schools and colleges. We're fortunate to have so many interdisciplinary centers and institutes, which automatically draw faculty from multiple units across our campuses.
We're a highly entrepreneurial campus, with faculty and students protecting intellectual property through our George Mason Intellectual Properties corporation, starting companies through the Mason Enterprise Center, working with faculty in the School of Management to learn more about starting their own companies, and taking workshops and seminars across campus, or through our Business Alliance.
