This series will offer sessions provided by offices at Mason that support the research enterprise. Sessions will focus on a different area of research support and include detailed information about the services that area provides. They will include sessions by Research Development, Research Subject Protections, Technology Transfer and Sponsored Programs. There will also be a session given by Vice President for Research and Economic Development on Strategies for Success in Research Funding. These are excellent sessions to attend if you are new to Mason or new to conducting research at Mason.

This series offers a range of sessions intended for those who are new to applying for external funding. These sessions provide fundamental information on grantsmanship, seeking and identifying funding from foundations, funding opportunities for graduate students and postdocs. It also includes a "how to" grantwriting workshop.

These one hour sessions provide useful advice on how to be successful in seeking funding information, writing competitive grant proposals and creating relevant budgets. It includes an introduction to using SPIN, a funding source database as well as sessions that highlight success strategies in grant writing and budget preparation.

These sessions provide details on necessary elements of managing a sponsored project. This series includes an overview of grants management and specific sessions that focus on allowable costs, effort reporting and fiscal issues including cost sharing, cost transfers and subrecipient monitoring. The specific topics sessions will include examples of typical issues that arise in research administration. These are essential sessions for anyone who has received external funding and are valuable for both PIs and staff on sponsored projects.

This series includes sessions on research related topics that are relevant to both new and experienced researchers. They provide valuable information for new faculty and graduate students wanting to learn more about mentoring, collaboration, publication practices and peer review. And, they offer opportunities for everyone to learn more about a number of areas that are governed by rules, regulations and law such as conflict of interest and commitment, research misconduct, and intellectual property.

In this series faculty will have the opportunity to explore avenues for translating their research results into new innovations in the marketplace. Session topics include federal funding programs for small businesses, issues in university industry partnerships, and creating your own business.
