Grants Management Overview

This session provides an overview of what a Principle Investigator needs to know to about managing a sponsored project at Mason. Topics will include information about essential grants management responsibilities such as personnel hiring, spending, and reporting. It will also provide information about a number of other topics including: subcontracts, confidential and proprietary information, record keeping, recovered F&A, and audits.

Allowable Costs
This session will use short case studies to illustrate allowable cost issues on sponsored projects with a focus on federal funding and OMB Circular A-21. Attendees are encouraged to bring up specific examples for discussion during this interactive session.

Fiscal Issues
This session will discuss three compliance areas that routinely receive close attention from federal agencies. Cost Sharing, Cost Transfers and Subrecipient Monitoring are always included in Federal Agency audit plans. We will discuss Mason's policies and procedures in these areas with a particular focus on the roles and responsibilities of Principal Investigators and Departmental Administrators.

Effort Reporting
This session will cover effort reporting requirements as defined by the federal government with a focus on Mason's policies and procedures in this area. We will discuss the schedule for certification, review roles and responsibilities and define what it means to "certify" effort on a sponsored project.
