Activities
Facilitating
communication among staff members.
Fostering
a spirit of unity and cooperation.
Acting as
a liaison between the George Mason University staff, the staff of other
state funded institutions, Virginia Government Employees Association (VGEA),
George Mason University Administration and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Promoting
social responsibility and demonstrating concern for all members of George
Mason University, the community at large, and higher education in general.
Accomplishments
- In partnership
with the University administration, increased the tuition waiver from
6 to 12 hours annually.
- Launched the Mason Military Ourtreach organization to support Mason community members who are serving or who have loved ones serving in the military.
- Worked
successfully with Physical Plant administration concerning the purchase
of winter coats for employees in addition to the lightweight jackets
now provided.
- Effectively
advocated for the Compensation Committee to change the award process
for the Citizenship Award.
- Established
a gift program within the Staff Senate for Employees of the Month, which
is acknowledged during the University's monthly ceremony.
- Established
an extensive listserv network to keep all classified and non-student
wage employees informed of state legislative information as well as
issues relating specifically to George Mason University.
- Obtained
representation on various University committees, thus bringing staff
concerns to the attention of the appropriate body and following through
to resolution. Committees include:
