Child Development Center

OUR CHILDREN

We give priority to children of families currently affiliated with George Mason University as faculty, staff, or student. The families who choose our program come from a variety of backgrounds, bringing a diversity that enriches the lives of the teachers as well as the other children. We value the unique perspectives each family brings, and look forward to getting to know each child and family that enrolls.

Children are grouped by age into three classrooms. Each classroom is named for an animal, to make it easier for the children to remember which group is theirs.

Teddy Bears

The Teddy Bears are children aged two to three years old. This is their first year in our program, and the teachers delight in their wisdom, sense of fun, and ability to enjoy life. There are a maximum of 20 children in the class on any given day, and we have three to four staff members there for most of the day.

Polar Bears

The Polar Bears are three and four years old. Many of them were enrolled in the Teddy Bear class, but there are some new children in the class each year. The staff members in the class (three in the morning and two in the afternoons after the short day children leave) think 3 and 4 year olds are a fun age because they are beginning to develop their ability to plan ahead, and because they are so talkative.

Panda Bears

The Panda Bears, many of whom have been enrolled in the program for several years, have a lot of control in their classroom. They participate in room set up as well as in planning for their daily and weekly activities, and are eager to tell any newcomer more about their room and schedule. The staff members (three in the morning and two in the afternoon) in this class find the four and fives to be an exciting group because they are so full of ideas and so eager to learn new things.

Please come visit us and join in the excitement!
