There will be an information session for Mason students interested in learning more about the Truman Scholars program. It will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Meese Board Room, Ground Floor of Mason Hall. Ms. Tara Yglesias, Associate Director of the Truman Foundation will provide an overview of the program and the application process and will address questions.
This prestigious scholarship provides intensive leadership training and $20,000 toward graduate or professional school to college juniors who are exceptional leaders, can demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a public service (government or non-profit) career, and have a strong academic record. All majors are encouraged to apply. Several Mason students have been selected as Finalists in the past few years, and one has recently been named a Truman Scholar. There will be an information session for Mason undergraduates and graduate students interested in learning more about the National Security Education Program (NSEP) fellowships and scholarships. It will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 7-8:30 p.m. in Johnson Center, Room D on the 3rd Floor These awards fund students from all disciplines interested in a government career to learn a critical needs language (including Arabic, Russian, Korean, and Mandarin) abroad, usually for an academic year. Several Mason students have received these awards in the past few years. This program is limited to U.S. citizens. On April 25, 2008 the Postgraduate Fellowships and Scholarships Office hosted a Celebration Luncheon to honor Mason students who competed for prestigious awards. President Alan Merten welcomed honorees and their families. Dr. Susan Hirsch shared her thoughts on receiving recognition and the academic imagination needed to develop competitive scholarship and fellowship applications. Vice Provost Linda Schwartzstein helped congratulate talented Mason students. Congratulations to all!
Representatives from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) will be at George Mason University (Fairfax) on Tuesday, March 25 from 3:00 – 4:00 PM in Research 1, room 161. ASEE promotes and administers various research-oriented fellowships for undergraduate and graduate students in the STEM fields.
