INFORMATION FOR YOUR INITIAL MEETING ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS, FELLOWSHIPS, AND OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

  1. Please e-mail us to schedule meetings.  You can e-mail Dr. Deirdre Moloney at dmoloney@gmu.edu.  After our initial appointment, you might wish to contact Judith Adkins, our Writing Center specialist in personal statements at jadkins5@gmu.edu.  She will be available for a limited number of appointments beginning on August 25, 2008.  We will often be able to schedule an initial thirty-minute meeting with students during the week immediately after they contact us (except during the peak period of mid-August-early October, vacations and other times that we will be out of the office).  Please suggest a few times during the following week that you are available to meet.  Please see whether you can arrange to schedule an appointment during office hours for that semester.  Also, let us know in your e-mail if there is a particular opportunity or group of opportunities you wish to discuss, what your major or graduate program is, and your GPA.

  2. Please complete the Student Information Form (below) and bring it to our first meeting.  If it’s been six months or longer since you completed the form, please complete the form once again so that I have an updated record of your achievements and interests.

  3. Please arrive for our first meeting with Dr. Moloney in Johnson Center 245 and let the person at the reception desk know with whom you have an appointment. Meetings with Ms. Atkins take place in the basement of Enterprise Hall, room 040.

  4. If you are unable to come to the Fairfax campus during the day, we might be able to set up a phone conference. On those evenings when information sessions are scheduled, an evening appointment may be possible. For students on the Arlington campus who are applying for Fulbright grants, there will one information session and one evening of appointments during the summer.

  5. Prior to your meeting, please spend some time on the program website: http://www.gmu.edu/student/fellowships researching programs in the opportunities section and reviewing other resources on the program website so that you are familiar with various options, and have a sense of the eligibility requirements and application process.  Many fellowship websites linked to that page offer profiles of recent and current awardees.  Also check for upcoming information sessions on the events page.

  6. Please call us at 703-993-2917 or 703-933-9082 if you need to cancel or reschedule our appointment or if you are running late.
