Get Tested... Get Treated!

Being tested for HIV and other STDs is one of the most important decisions regarding you health. It can cause a lot of anxiety, but both pre and post-testing counseling are always part of the process. It is important for you to know that testing facilities offer two types of testing, confidential and anonymous.

Confidential (C)

You give your name and/or social security number. The results are between you and your health care provider and are not shared with others. However, Virginia State law requires that the names of people who test positive for HIV antibodies be reported to the health department. This information is for disease control purposes only.

Anonymous (A)

No name or identification is required. You usually are given a random I.D. number that you use to retrieve your results. The testing agency never knows your personal identity; therefore, they cannot report your test results to anyone but you.
