What is Peer Health Education?
Peer Health Education is on-campus healh outreach provided to students by students. Peer Health Educators (PHE's) are trained in a variety of health topics and facilitation skills. PHE's work to assist the office of Health Education Services in the delivery of its mission.

Peer Health Education and George Mason University:
PHE's at GMU are recruited, trained and supervised by Mary Ann Sprouse of Health Education Services. They facilitate interactive sessions in the residence halls, University 100 classes, club and organizational meetings, and in academic classrooms on various health-related issues. PHE's also provide kiosk and special event outreach throughout the year on a variety of health topics. Topics generally include STD/HIV prevention, sexuality, stress management, and tobacco prevention and cessation. Each PHE chooses the topic in which s/he wishes to concentrate. Experienced PHE's are encouraged to take leadership roles within the group to asssist the Coordinator in operation of the PHE program.
