International Student Orientation - Fall 2008

Mandatory for all new international F-1 & J-1 students
(undergraduate, graduate, freshman and transfer)
Tuesday, August 19 & Wednesday, August 20, 2008
Johnson Center, Dewberry Hall
9.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m.
International Student Orientation covers important information about academic and immigration policies, as well as practical matters such as housing, transportation, banking, health insurance, etc. International Student Orientation is also a wonderful opportunity to meet and make friends with other new students perhaps from your country and from all over the world! Parents and spouses are welcome at orientation.
Please fill out the Online International Student Orientation Confirmation Form
as soon as possible.
In addition to the International Student Orientation, undergraduate students must attend a general GMU Orientation. These general orientation sessions are offered in July and August. A schedule of dates, times and reservation forms are available on-line at http://orientation.gmu.edu. Registration is required to attend one of these sessions...they may be marked FULL but explain you are an International student and need special attention since your paper work takes longer to process and you are not allowed to be in the country when most of the orientations take place. Undergraduate students do need to register for this session and mail confirmation of attendance to the Orientation Office. Graduate students would greatly benefit from attending one of the general GMU Orientation sessions and are more than welcome.
In addition, graduate students should also check with their academic department for information on separate departmental orientation sessions for graduate students. Please note that each of these graduate departmental orientation sessions is different. International student orientation is mandatory but does not replace the other orientation programs, so you should go to as many as possible. The general Mason Orientation are very valuable for getting the basic workings of campus, for assuring that you have registered properly, and have your GMU E-mail account. Also part of your student fees go there so you might as well take advantage of it!
There will be document check-in days the week following the Orientation date, and there will be Student Health Services screening days (please bring your immunization/health records with you) the week of orientation. More details on these dates will be given at orientation. International student orientation is mandatory for all international students (transfer and new, undergraduate and graduate).
