Afghan Scholars

George Mason University welcomes scholars and researchers who have recently left Afghanistan to request an academic appointment to the university as visiting scholars.

Afghan scholars selected to participate in this program will receive financial and institutional support from Mason for one year, with a possible option for renewal.

This program is open to Afghans who have legal residence in the U.S. or are in the process of obtaining a U.S. visa.

The Mason Afghan Visiting Scholars Program is only available to Afghan professors, researchers, and other professionals who meet either of the following criteria:

  • Currently in the United States
  •  Have a valid U.S. visa with plans to travel to the U.S.

We are currently unable to accept submissions from scholars still residing in  Afghanistan.

Individuals will be evaluated on a number of criteria, including but not limited to:

  • credentials,
  • ability to travel to the United States,
  • professional experience, and
  • a field of study that aligns with a participating George Mason college or school.

Appointments are not guaranteed and will be offered to a select group of applicants.

Please fill out the form at right to express your interest.  Submissions are due by February 11, 2022.  Our staff will follow up with you as quickly as possible.
