The Center for Global Studies (CGS) sponsors a number of Working Groups. These groups bring together interdisciplinary teams of faculty and graduate students with interests in a common set of questions relating to processes of globalization, and are envisioned to be rather informal and flexible enough to respond to opportunities or members' interest over the course of an academic year. Funding is allocated annually with proposals for the 2013-2014 academic year due by Friday, April 5, 2013, at 5:00pm. Award announcements will be made in late April.

For those interested in continuing an existing or proposing a new Working Group, the points outlined below should
help you provide the kinds of data CGS needs to evaluate and approve your proposal and provide your Working Group with funding. Please include such other information as you think will be helpful for CGS to understand the vision of your working group.

CGS awards a maximum of $1500 per working group with a maximum of 1/3 of the money budgeted for student assistants. Group members are expected to be of the Mason faculty and student communities. It is anticipated that funding by CGS will enable events to be held at Mason campuses throughout the academic year to promote the work of each group.

Both new and renewed working groups will be required to author a minimum of 2 blog postings per semester (approximately 500 to 1000 words each) related to the group's research focus and/or activities. CGS is developing a new website, the centerpiece of which will be a blog that will feature news, analysis and commentary about global events and related phenomena. Additionally, the Working Group is required to note its affiliation with CGS on all promotional items.

Details of the groups currently funded by CGS can be found on our Working Groups page
