Faculty Information

Faculty members are strongly encouraged to participate in Spring Graduation events.

Come out and support your students as they celebrate their degrees. This page will update with more information for faculty as we get closer to graduation. Please check back regularly!

Regalia

To support faculty participation, the University will pay for the rental of regalia through the George Mason Bookstore by any faculty member who will make the commitment to attend and act as a marshal for the ceremonies. We need as many marshals as possible with a minimum one per department. The marshals help is critical for the success of the ceremony.

Please register here to act as a marshal for Spring Commencement.

If you ordered rental regalia from the bookstore for the May 2023 graduation, you will be receiving an e-mail from them confirming your specific regalia information. Please respond with your intention to participate.
If you rented regalia last year and do not receive an e-mail from the Bookstore by Friday, April 7th, or did not previously rent regalia, please e-mail sm366@bncollege.com.  The information needed is your name, contact information, height, cap size, and alma mater.

The deadline to order the rental regalia is Friday, April 28th 2023. After that deadline, faculty may still order regalia, but will be charged a late fee of $25.00. The University will not be responsible for this charge.

The rental regalia for Spring will be available for pickup starting May 11, 2023. Faculty ordering after the deadline should expect a delay in receiving regalia. You may email to see if it is in before you make the trip into the store.

The Bookstore requires the return of all rental regalia at the conclusion of the ceremonies on May 18. Bookstore representatives will be at the EagleBank Arena Lobby near the Hospitality Room to collect regalia after Commencement on May 18 until 1 p.m. If you need your regalia for additional ceremonies or simply miss the 1 p.m. deadline, you will need to bring it back to the bookstore. No one will be collecting at the Hospitality Room after that point.

George Mason University follows the guidelines for regalia established by the American Council of Education.
