When Will Graduation Ceremonies Be Held?

Winter Graduation events will be December 14 through 16.  

  • The Patriot Procession event will be December 14 and 15 in EagleBank Arena.
  • Ceremonies for bachelor and master candidates will be December 16 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at EagleBank Arena.
  • The doctoral ceremony will be December 16 at 4 p.m. at the Center for the Arts Concert Hall. 

Should Friends and Family Register to Attend an Event?

Graduates must register for their place and their guests for all December 16 ceremonies. 

The number of guests for the ceremony is limited to 10 events at  EagleBank Arena events and eight at events at the Center for the Arts Concert Hall. This could change if public health guidelines alter. 

Graduates must register for their place in the Patriot Procession. You may have as many guests as you like.

Will Public Health Protocols Be in Place?


Mason will require masks, regardless of vaccination status, for all indoor events.

Everyone must complete the COVID Health Check before attending an event.  

You must provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to attend events at Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

Will Ceremonies Be Live Streamed?

Yes, you will be able to watch the December 16 events.

When Should I Arrive? When Will Doors Open?

Students should arrive an hour before each ceremony, when doors will open.

Students should enter EagleBank Arena through the loading dock entrance.  Guests should enter on the concourse level.   

At the Center for the Arts Concert Hall, doctoral candidates should enter at the Black Box entrance towards the back of the building. Guests should enter through the main entrance. 

Where Should I Park?

Free parking is available in Lots A, L and K, the closest lots to EagleBank Arena, December 14 through 16.

For the doctoral ceremony in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall, there is no charge to park in the Mason Pond Parking Deck on December 16. 

What Accessible Services Be Available?

Special parking will be available on the south side of EagleBank Arena and on Mason Pond Drive for the Center for the Arts Concert Hall.  

In EagleBank Arena, all seats around the arena at the concourse level are reserved for special-needs access. You can be accompanied by one other member of your party.  Guests using wheelchairs can view the ceremony from Portals 4, 8, 13 and 17. 

In the Concert Hall, ushers will seat patrons using wheelchairs or those requiring special-access seating. 

Sign language interpreters will be present at all December 16 ceremonies. 

What Should Graduates Wear to Ceremonies?

Graduates must wear a cap and gown to all ceremonies on December 16.   

Regalia is optional for the Patriot Procession on December 14 and 15.  

Where Can I Get Regalia and Other Graduation Items?

Regalia can be purchased online and at the Mason Bookstore, which is in the Johnson Center on the Fairfax Campus. 

What Security Policies Will Be in Effect?

Is Someone Taking On-Stage Photos?

GradImages will take photos on stage and a head shot off stage and will email graduates who provided an address to purchase photos. Only photos taken by GradImages will be sent to students.

When and How Will I Get My Diploma?

Diplomas will be mailed eight to 10 weeks after commencement. Notify Mason if you need to update your diploma mailing address.
