Health Information Technology Minor

Unit: Health Administration and Policy 

The minor in Health Information Technology introduces students, in a non-technical context, to the utilization of health information management in the professional arena of healthcare management and policy. Students will examine the current and projected role of health information management in the delivery of healthcare and development of health policy and apply this information in a practical research endeavor.

Minor Requirements (15 credits)


A minor in Health Information Technology requires a minimum of 15 credits, at least 9 of which must be applied only to the minor and cannot be used to fulfill the program of study requirements of the student’s major, concentration, undergraduate certificate, or another minor.

Research Internship:


  • HHS 480 - Research Internship in Health and Human Services Credits: 3
  • A minor in Health Information Technology requires a dedicated internship (HHS 480) that may only be applied toward this minor or CHHS program of study. The research internship will be focused on research in an area of applied health informatics. The practicum experience will be supervised by a course faculty member, under the direction of a faculty mentor from the Department of Health Administration and Policy engaged in research. 

     

    Special course pre-registration procedures must be completed prior to registering for this course. As part of this process, the student’s research practicum and faculty assignment must be approved in writing, prior to registration, by his/her CHHS faculty advisor.
