Dr. Owens is an associate professor at GMU and teaches Irish literature and drama classes. A native of Strokestown Ireland, he earned his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame in 1965.

Following his graduation he returned to his native home and completed his graduate and doctorate degrees by 1975. He has
been with GMU for 23 years.

In addition to the numerous seminars that Dr. Owens has sponsored for community groups, he also is the chair for the Gaelic League of the Washington area. He has twice published a Gaelic language audio tapes series that have been well received by the public. He serves as the Language Representative for the American Institute for Irish Studies.
