Counseling Licensure Post-Master's Graduate Certificate

Banner Code:  E1-CERG-PCLC

This 15-credit certificate is designed for individuals who possess a master’s degree in counseling or a highly-related field (e.g.clinical psychology) and seek 15 credits of post-graduate coursework to meet licensure requirements as a Virginia School Counselor or Virginia Licensed Professional Counselor. Applicants with master’s degrees outside of counseling, must verify course equivalency with the Virginia Board of Counseling (see Board of Counseling content area list at http://www.dhp.state.va.us/counseling/) or the Virginia Department of Education (http://www.doe.virginia.gov/teaching/licensure/index.shtml) prior to applying. Applicants with more than seven courses to take to meet the course content requirements for licensure, must apply to one of our master’s degree programs.

Once accepted to this certificate program, students work with the Virginia  Board of Counseling or Virginia Department of Education to review their transcripts and determine what courses they will need to receive licensure.  Once this is determined, students will work with an assigned advisor to finalize course selections.
