Health Information Systems Graduate Certificate

Unit: Health Administration and Policy 

This certificate prepares clinicians and health care managers to develop and manage health information systems and health-related electronic commerce. Students learn the development, management, adoption, and use of electronic patient records, enterprise data management in the health industry, and Telehealth. The certificate is ideal for individuals with technical and programming skills who are new to the health care industry. It is also ideal for clinicians and managers with little background in information technology and database management.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree. No prior computer programming training is needed, although knowledge of HTML language is assumed. Application is made through CHHS.

Certificate Requirements


Completion of the certificate requires 15-18 graduate credits.  Students must complete all courses with a minimum GPA of 3.00.

Additional Coursework Required


HAP 678 is mandatory for students without recent working experience in the U.S. health system, bringing the number of required credits to 18 for these students.  HAP 678 is optional for students who already possess the requisite knowledge and skills. Decisions about this requirement are made by the department at the time of admission.
