Professional Ethics Graduate Certificate

The certificate may be pursued concurrently with any other graduate program in the university.

This program of study is offered by the Department of Philosophy .

Application Requirements


Applicants must meet the admission standards and application requirements as specified in the Admission  chapter of the catalog. Students not currently in a degree program at George Mason should submit an application for graduate study. Students already enrolled in a Mason degree program should submit a secondary program application. Students can initially enroll in the certificate program as nondegree students, but must apply for admission to the certificate program no later than the second semester of study.

Certificate Requirements


In consultation with an advisor, students should select their courses to create a coherent program of study.

One course (3 credits) in the history of ethical theory


Two courses (6 credits) in applied ethics chosen from:


Two elective courses (6 credits)


Students can fulfill this requirement with courses in philosophy but are encouraged to take courses in other disciplines as well.

Total: 15 credits
