Students may select an optional concentration in mathematics education; students who do not select this concentration study traditional mathematics.

Students must fulfill all requirements for bachelor’s degrees . In addition to satisfying the Mason Core  and requirements for the BA degree in COS , students must satisfy the requirements listed below.

This undergraduate program offers students the option of applying to the accelerated master’s degree program in curriculum and instruction (SECM concentration) .  See listing for specific requirements.

This program of study is offered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Science .

Degree Requirements

Core Courses (26 credits)

Electives for Traditional Mathematics (12 credits)

  • 12 additional credits of electives in MATH numbered above 300 (excluding MATH 400 )

Concentrations

Students may select an optional concentration in education.

▲ Concentration in Mathematics Education (MTHE)

Students selecting the mathematics education concentration take the following 33 credits of coursework in place of the 12 credits of MATH electives listed above.

Note

A maximum of 6 credits of grades below 2.00 in course work designated MATH may be applied toward the major.
