International Funding Request

George Mason University welcomes displaced students to our community. The Refugee Student Scholarship supports displaced students from anywhere in the world who are unable to complete their higher education.

Prospective students identifying as refugees or displaced persons should complete the interest form below for assistance with credential evaluation and information about using a DUOLINGO score as proof of English proficiency.

About the scholarship

This scholarship program provides eligible new students with financial assistance for tuition and mandatory fees. Awards range in amount and are based on an individual's access to other scholarships and financial aid.

• Submitting the interest form does not guarantee funding and is not an application to a Mason academic program.
• Submitting the form notifies Mason of your interest to earn a degree and that you require financial assistance to do so.
• If an award will be granted, Mason cannot confirm the level of financial assistance to be provided until the student has been admitted to a degree program and accepted their admission offer.
• Acceptance to a degree program does not guarantee you will receive funding through the scholarship.

Eligibility

This scholarship program is for foreign nationals who meet the following criteria:

• Are currently located in the United States
• Satisfy at least one of the following requirements:
  • Have received U.S. asylum or submitted a U.S. asylum application
  • Are in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status
  • Are on Humanitarian Parole
  • Have a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV)
  • In refugee status
• Are applying to a bachelor’s or master’s degree program
  • Students applying to doctoral programs are not eligible. Doctoral program applicants should consult their academic department about funding options.

Application process

• Applicants must complete the interest form and a Mason application for admission.

• Upon submission of the interest form, a Mason staff member will reach out to the student to discuss eligibility criteria for specific programs and other concerns, such as credential evaluation.
