Every day, Mason's faculty, staff, students, and partners work to solve pressing problems, illuminate important issues, and shape decisions on policy. They are driven by the urge to break new ground and have a meaningful impact in the world. Maybe that is why U.S. News and World Report ranks Mason No. 1 in Virginia and No. 9 nationally among public institutions for innovation. Mason is among the top ten in research growth among U.S. public universities, according to the National Science Foundation. The organization FIRE ranks Mason in the top 20 nationally among public institutions for welcoming and fostering free speech. Mason values thinking, speaking, and acting in ways that break the mold and create progress.

From health care to technology, nonprofits to government, Mason's alumni are enacting change in the world today. Recent graduates become successful hires in top industries such as business or financial consulting, government or military-related industries, technology, health care, and education. Overall, 88 percent of recent graduates report they are on track for career-related employment, graduate school, or the military. Mason's innovative faculty partner with aspiring minds across a variety of industries to bring about lasting change. These collaborations have resulted in interdisciplinary centers, institutes, and programs that are often unique or the first of their kind.

Intention and thought are one thing; being able to produce results is another. Mason strives to show it not only talks the talk but has the numbers to back it up. Mason produces the most tech talent of any four-year institution in Virginia, with 40 percent of students majoring in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. In fact, Mason established Virginia's first School of Computing and first College of Public Health in response to perceived needs in the community for job ready talent in those fields. Mason leads the way in order to provide for the region, the state, the nation, and the world.
