CEIE 431 - Foundation Design

Credits: 3 (NR)
Introduction to various principles and practices of geotechnical engineering including estimation of soil properties using in-situ tests, laboratory tests, and correlations. Course includes the study of earth pressure theories as applied to the design of retaining walls, anchored bulkheads, and excavation bracing. Additional topics include retaining wall stability, bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations on sands and clays and design considerations and capacity analysis of deep foundations.

Prerequisite(s): Grade C or better in CEIE 305 or CEIE 331. Prerequisite enforced by registration system.
