NURS 782 - Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Practicum I

Develops clinical competence in comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health problems and psychiatric and co-morbid medical disorders, referring when appropriate. Demonstrates effective clinical interviewing skills. Applies principles of pharmacology including complementary and alternative therapies. Develops culturally sensitive plans for health maintenance, promotion and treatment. Evaluates outcomes of treatment. Manages psychiatric emergencies. Advocates for patients and families.

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Doctor of Nursing Practice program or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate. NURS 632, NURS 633, NURS 634, and NURS 743
Corequisite(s): NURS 783

Notes: Five clinical hours per week are required for each credit.

Required course in the Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (FPMHNP) concentration. Admission to the Doctor of Nursing Practice program or with permission of instructor.
