The George Mason University Japanese Student Association (JSA) is an official Mason registered student organization dedicated to bringing authentic, educational experiences regarding Japanese culture to the George Mason community. Though many people are familiar with Japan through pop-culture like アニメ (anime) and 漫画 (manga), the JSA is committed to expanding the Mason community's collective knowledge of Japanese culture to a far deeper level. Rather than focusing on such pop-culture, the JSA works to promote both an interest in and respect for all aspects of Japan's rich history and society. Ranging from both the spoken and written language to authentic Japanese cuisine, to even the Japanese arts like 歌舞伎 (Kabuki) and 生花 (Ikebana), the JSA is truly committed to providing the Mason community with fun, positive and educational experiences.
