Since 2007, Mason has incorporated the score optional stipulation into its holistic approach to the application evaluation process.
You have the opportunity to share your test scores as supplemental materials to your application, however, you are not penalized for selecting the score optional consideration when applying.
Is the score optional consideration right for you?
To be a successful score optional applicant, you will have
- Maintained a competitive cumulative grade point average (3.3–3.9 on a weighted 4.0 scale) for grades 9 to 11
- Shown evidence of consistent effort and performance in college preparatory, honors, advanced placement, and/or International Baccalaureate courses
- Shown leadership, personal motivation, and intellectual curiosity in your extracurricular, work, or service experiences
We know that options and academic conditions vary widely between high schools. Your academic performance in the classroom is the most important factor when we review your application.
Special Situations

If you apply score optional and your native language is not English, you are required to submit results of an English language proficiency exam to the Office of Admissions.

If you apply score optional to computer science and engineering majors within the College of Engineering and Computing, you will be considered if you have completed four years of high school mathematics courses. At least one of your courses should be designated a level higher than Algebra II. You must have completed all math courses with grades of B or better.
