Meet Your Counselor
Assistant Director of Admissions
Christina Badalis serves as the admissions counselor for all homeschooled applicants to George Mason University. She would be thrilled to connect with you and assist you with the application process.
The foundation of a college application is the high school transcript. If you are not enrolled in an accredited program that provides an official transcript, you will need to create one.
Both the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) and the Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV) have transcript services. You and your parents or guardians can also create a transcript from scratch using the provided guidelines.
Mason does not require any set format for homeschool transcripts. However, following these guidelines will ensure that your achievements are clearly outlined for the admissions committee's evaluation.

Course Work
There are two general ways to format your courses and grades.
Option 1—Transcript by Grade-Level (Preferred)
Divide your courses by the grade in which you completed them, and list the course title; whether classified as Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and so forth; grade earned; and date completed. List any courses completed in middle school for high school credit in the corresponding grade level. Use "IP' to indicate in-progress courses.

Create a matrix of courses taken by subject and grade level. Include course titles (be sure to indicate whether the course is considered Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and so forth), grades earned, and date of completion. Use "IP' to indicate in-progress courses.

Academic Overview
As an overview of your academic journey so far, please provide
- Cumulative count of credits earned.
- Cumulative GPA—We recommend using an online GPA calculator to ensure accuracy, particularly with weighted courses such as AP, IB, and dual enrollment.
- Anticipated graduation date—If you are finishing outside of a traditional May/June graduation time frame, please inform the Office of Admissions so that it's clear you are a freshman applicant.
Extracurricular Activities
- Tell us how you spend your time outside of your studies. This can be included as part of the transcript packet, with the application itself, or on a resume. Examples include sports, arts activities, community service, scouting, and so forth.
