Event Security Protocols

Beginning in the spring of 2023, Mason enhanced security procedures for commencement and degree ceremonies to include guest ticketing, graduate credentialing, and security screening for all ceremonies. Please read the following carefully to ensure that you are prepared.

Graduate Credentialing

All graduates are required to check in prior to commencement or their degree ceremony to enter.  Graduates should be prepared to show your Mason ID at commencement and their respective degree ceremony to expedite check in. Graduates will receive specific instructions on where to check in for Mason’s graduation ceremonies via email.

Ticketing

All patrons of Mason’s commencement and degree Ceremonies are required to possess a ticket to enter Mason venues. Individuals without a ticket will not be admitted. Ticketing information and venue rules are available online.

Screening

All graduates and patrons entering EagleBank Arena will be required to pass through a security gate. Bags and persons may be subject to search by event security.  Signs, banners, posters and flags larger than 18 x18 inches are prohibited in EagleBank Arena. Please limit the items brought into the venue to help us ensure a smooth procession and avoid delays. Screening may be required at other Mason venues and ceremonies.

Face Coverings

Due to Virginia state law that prohibits the wearing of face masks for purposes of concealing one’s identity – graduates, faculty, staff, and audience members – who wear a face covering will be required to produce photo identification (i.e., government issued ID or Mason ID) upon entering the venue. Individuals who do not produce identification will be required to remove their face covering or leave the arena.

Those who refuse to comply with Mason’s security protocols will be required to leave voluntarily or will be subject to arrest. In addition, students who refuse to share their IDs will be referred to Student Conduct.
