    Dear CVPA Community,
     
    I am so very sorry to be writing to you today with such sad news.  Our wonderful friend, tireless advocate, and generous supporter of the arts at Mason (and so many other important things), Sid Dewberry, has left us.  He passed away on Saturday, July 16, at the age of 94.

    Mason Exhibitions is honored to present Abdulrahman Naanseh: Pressure, Movement, Effect, a solo exhibition of the artist’s recent Arabic calligraphy on paper and canvas, on view June 17 through August 6, 2022. The opening reception for Pressure, Movement, Effect will kick off with the Arlington Collective Art Walk the evening of June 17, featuring self-guided art experiences open to the public that connects seven local galleries.

    We are thrilled to announce that Dr. William L. Lake, Jr., will be joining our faculty as the new Director of Concert Bands in the Dewberry School of Music for the upcoming academic year. Dr. Lake will conduct the George Mason University Wind Symphony and Mason Symphonic Band and will also teach Conducting and Wind Literature classes.

    The Hylton Performing Arts Center hosted a special two-day celebration with the 12th Anniversary Gala on April 29 and 30. The first Anniversary Gala held in-person since 2019, the event welcomed more than 1,000 guests and supported the Hylton Center’s mission of presenting diverse performances and programs of high quality and artistic excellence to inspire, educate, and enrich the community.
