Now is the time for George Mason University, friends, and family to come together and celebrate all that you have achieved. Attend University Commencement and your Degree Celebration to commemorate your achievements.

Ready, Set, Graduate!

Your final semester at Mason is going to go faster than you expect. Make sure you complete all the steps required so your graduation goes smoothly. We'll keep adding information as it becomes available, so check back regularly!

Get the Paperwork Done

Graduation applications were due September 29, 2024. If you missed this deadline, you'll need to complete a late graduation application form. Certain processes may be delayed if you apply late.

You must apply to graduate to be eligible to claim ceremony tickets or receive graduation communications.

Apply to be the Student Speaker

Interested in sharing your journey and experience as a George Mason student with others? You could be the Student Speaker at University Commencement on December 19th in EagleBank Arena!

We are looking for graduating students who are interested in sharing their Mason journey and experience to serve as this year's 2024 Fall Commencement Student Speaker. Written submissions are due at 11:59pm on October 14, 2024.

Attend the Grad Fair

Attend the Winter Grad Fair to purchase graduation regalia. Caps, gowns, stoles, cords, announcements, diploma frames, and more will be available at this Johnson Center event.

 

Grad Fair will be November 6th and 7th from 10 am to 6 pm in Dewberry Hall.

Save the Date

Tickets will be required for both Commencement and degree celebration ceremonies. Ticket information will be available here late October. You must apply to graduate to be eligible to claim your tickets or receive graduation communications.

What is Commencement?

University Commencement is the official graduation ceremony including degree conferral by President Washington, remarks by the both the presidential invited guest speaker and the selected Class of 2024 student speaker, with music provided by Doc Nix and the Green Machine.  All Mason winter graduates are invited to attend. All Doctoral students will be recognized and hooded individually at the Commencement Ceremony. Other graduates will be asked to stand as a group when their major is called for recognition.

What are Degree Celebrations?

Separate Degree Celebrations honor the different schools' and colleges' Bachelors and Masters graduates. These graduates are individually recognized and photographed as they cross the stage. The events also featured guest speakers from similar fields. Doctoral graduates are not recognized at Degree Celebrations; they are recognized at Commencement.

If you are a George Mason graduate from a previous semester looking to participate in a winter graduation ceremony, please email gmuevent@gmu.edu for guidance.

Please Note

Security measures will be in place at all ceremonies.

Graduates will need a valid Mason electronic or physical ID to check in.

All graduates and guests will go through weapons detection systems.

Working on a thesis or dissertation?

In order to be eligible to graduate under the Winter 2024 Semester, all Master's students writing theses and all Doctoral students writing dissertations must adhere to specific deadlines.
